CVS, Rite Aid BAM BAM!

Woke up early this morning to hit up RA and CVS. If you decide to go to RA, I HIGHLY recommend you print their coupon acceptance policy which can be found here and take it with you. You’d be surprised that stores do not have this but I ran into some trouble and ended up having to go home and grab it. That’s alright though, based on RA’s deals this week, I’m still in heaven.

$3.70 spent OOP, will get $5 back. $2.30 profit on the good stuff!

Rite Aid transaction:
2 x CoverGirl Simply Ageless Foundation $15.99 (BOGO)
2 x CoverGirl Simply Ageless Blush $13.99 (BOGO)

-$13.99 CovreGirl face product BOGO 2/7 P&G

Profit $2.30

I don’t usually do SCRs so I don’t know much about them and won’t elaborate. In fact, this will be my first time doing one.

Yes the Cover Girl coupon DID beep “Item not found” (this seems to be a problem with the Simply Ageless line), only a manager can override. Since I had to go back home to grab the coupon policy that shows it’s alright to use a BOGO q with a BOGO sale to get two free items, I checked SlickDeals. Someone posted that if you call into CoverGirl Cust Service (800-426-8374 M-F 9a-6p EST), they will tell you the coupon can be used on any CoverGirl face item PERIOD and managers should override the coupon if it beeps, and if they need information about reimbursement they can call that 800#. I armed myself with that number and explained to the manager if he was concerned about redemption, to please call the number so I could use the coupon, he didn’t call but he overrode my items and was pretty nice.

Groupon Insanity

Go get your Groupon!
Bargain hunters love a good deal, amirite? Groupon is a unique and widely popular deal-a-day website offering insanely discounted deals locally across 40 metropolitan areas. You can find gift certificates for half off their value for places like local shops, salons, restaurants. You just have to get the deals when you see them because they’re usually gone within 3 days!

Groupon membership is 100% free. They get unfathomable deals by using group buys as leverage. When enough people sign up for the discounted deal, the fantastic rate becomes a GO for everyone. They save you money on practical items AND there’s a great forum for insider-tips. Follow and forward on Twitter, Facebook, and via email. They also have a feature that allows you to Gift a deal. So, as an example deal I’ve seen in the past, you can get a $40 gift certificate to a sports-goods store as a birthday gift to your brother, and it only cost you $20.

I had to share this with you because today in the San Jose Groupon they have an AMAZING deal. Today’s feature deal is laser hair removal from A Youthful Reflection. Ok, if this doesn’t interest you, just check out Groupon for other more mass-appealing deals, and skip over the rest. I have seen Groupon do laser hair removal deals in the past, and being silky smooth is something that interests me. Even though I don’t pay for razors thanks to my couponing addiction, permanent stubble-freeness is something I’ve wanted since I discovered the technology, who’s with me girls? But sessions are typically $100-$150 EACH and most people require SIX sessions. And that’s just for one part of your body. Yikes! How can someone who proudly uses the word “frugal” go for that?

Today, Groupon saves the day teaming up with A Youthful Reflection to offer 3 packages for only $125 (yes, for all three), and you can score up to two packages at that discounted price. That is UNBELIEVABLE. This is a $500+ value. You WILL NOT find a lower price on permanent laser hair removal. There is some fine print, most notable this certificate does not cover legs, but they do allow you put the value towards legs for a small price increase. While bikini is included, Brazilian is an only $50 more per session, incredible.

Click here to get started and see what’s available in your area.

The deal above will be gone within a day, but there’s plenty more where that came from.

Quote from the Sun Times, Lisa Donovan:
This is how it works: Every day, Groupon posts a new bargain for something in the Chicago area. Each deal has a threshold at which the coupon gets activated. So, for example, if 100 people are needed to get the deal going and 220 people want to do it, all 220 people get charged for the item.

Groupon is in 40 cities nationwide, but not everyone is covered yet.

Rite Aid Deals 3/7 – 3/13

Rite Aid is having some GREAT deals this week. I kind of got inspired out of the “blue” to write this post so it’s going to quick and only highlight the best freebies. You can find a complete Rite Aid rundown by doing a web search. I myself don’t do the SCRs but there is a RA across the street from my usual CVS, so I’ll pop in if the deals are really good or really free.

Cover Girl products are Buy One Get One Free this week.
Get two CoverGirl face products.
Use the BOGO coupon from the 2/7 P&G to get both for FREE!
Use $1/1 from the 2/7 P&G for overage!

Renu $.99

or get 2 and use the $2/1 Print here
FREE

Secret/Gillette or Old Spice Deodorant 2/$8.00
use $4/2 Gillette from 2/21 P&G
use 2 x Get 1 Free Body wash wyb Gillette in 02/07 P&G
use $3.00/$15.00 printable coupon (might need fillers to get to $15)
= $1 for all 4 products, or $.25 each.
And you can submit for a $2 SCR to make this deal a MM.

Use these Rite Aid coupons $5/$25 here or $5/$15 here to sweeten your deals even more.

UPDATE: The CG BOGO Coupon is becoming a hassle for some people because the coupon is coded incorrectly and will not work on some items. It will not go thru for an of the Simply Ageless line (which are coded as Olay items and not as CG), and it beeps on some lip and eye products. Your best best is to only use this coupon on non-Simply Ageless Covergirl blush, foundation, bronzer, and concealer if you don’t want to have to get the manager, who is the only person who can push this coupon through on any other items.

A SDer reported 5 beepless transactions (except to enter price) on these items below. I personally have not tried it, but if you want to brave it:

Mascara (lash blast and last blast length)
Exact Eyelights (eye shadow sets)
TRUblend Minerals powder
TRUblend Minerals Blush
TRUconceal
Outlast All-day Lipcolor
Shine Blast Lipgloss
Advanced Radiance Foundation (Olay Ingredients)

thanks rainhousefl

I really want the Simply Ageless foundation and blushes, love that stuff, great look for hitting the town at night. I have a bunch of these coupons so I will grab enough to use 2 coupons and ask for the manager to push them thru. The coupon clearly states ANY CG face product, and since Olay doesn’t make makeup (and they are both made by P&G), AND because I really want this item, I’ll go thru the hassle.

You might want to print out the official Rite Aid Coupon Policy pdf (which deliberately addresses using BOGO coupons on BOGO sales) and take it with you in case you get any nazi cashiers! Happy shopping.

My $159 freebie gift bag

A few weeks ago, CVS.com had a promo where you could buy anything from the Beauty 360 line and the first 250 people would score a free giftbag. There was a free shipping code and people found a $3 eyeliner sharpener, the cheapest item. I didn’t see the promo til it had been up for at least 12 hours so I thought they’d gone thru the 250 pretty quickly and I’d missed out. But I had a $3 ECB from the quarterly payout (don’t laugh, tax is high here and it counts towards quarterlies! Good couponers strive to get $0 or $.50 quarterly ECBs since this is based on your OOP). I decided what the hey, logged onto CVS.com and used my quarterly ECB (which is truly like a free ECB anyway). I got the sharpener I purchased a few days later, but that was all I received. Then today I got:

  • $55 Borba Illuminating Eye Enlightening Cream & Brightening Serum duo
  • $38 Pop Eye Cake 5 eyeshadows, Pop beauty sparkle sauce glittery eyeliner sealant, and duo brush in a gold bag
  • $24 Revloution in Cut Smooth taming creme
  • $12 Nailtini Nail lacquer (brandy)
  • $30 Vincent Longo trio eyeshadow
  • Blue Beauty 360 reusable shopping bag, and saving the environment is priceless

I took some out of the packages so you could see these are all full-size products. WOW! Fabulous! So if you see these promos and they’re not too far of a stretch, sometimes it can really be a nice payoff. I would have never spent this amount of money on myself with things tough right now, but after coming home from work today and seeing the priority mail box at my door and finding these goodies inside, wow how nice. I can’t way to try all of these products. Thank you Beauty 360/CVS!

Thank you iheartcvs.com. If Erica hadn’t posted this on her blog, I wouldn’t have seen it. By the way, I love this girl’s site, it got me started into CVSing and pointed me to SlickDeals. If I see people at the grocery store take an interest in my coupons, I refer them to her site since it’s a super easy name and has the best tutorials. Everyone always says “Do i spell out the word heart,” lols. If you haven’t been yet (who hasn’t?), I highly recommend you check it out.

New CVS $5 of $20 IP from NorCal papers

New internet printable coupon for CVS customers popped up on several NorCal newspaper’s online editions today including the Sentinel, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Sacramento Bee. Take $5 off a $20 purchase (before coupons!) expires 2/6/10. Coupon clearly states “Redeemable at our No. California stores only.”

$5/$20 CVS IP from SF Chronicle

7 weeks in a row for us NorCal folks! I love this coupon. Every week for the last 7, this coupon has appeared in NorCal newspapers (usually on the front wrap-around) and on the newspapers’ websites available to print. If you are not in Northern California, keep in mind it will not beep at the register, but there is a very high chance your cashier will not let you use it.

Thanks www.iheartcvs.com and Erica for the link

CVS Run Tostitos, Pepsi, Starbucks, True North

MMMM I LOVE CVS snack deals. Ok it’s not meat and cheese, but it will all be used. I should have gotten more of this deal but I didn’t go out til Saturday so c’est la vie. There will always be more deals. This next week is Coke and Pringles. Everyone got this deal except NorCal. It’s a good time of year to stock up on snacks because of the Super Bowl sales. I have the NorCal ad in hand right now and as Lily pointed out there are several differences from the national ad. Kind of a weird since we’ve been pretty synchronized since Thanksgiving. I’ll post the details next week’s ad for us NorCal folks on the prior thread.

I love chips and salsa but they were out of salsa/dips, no biggie, forgot to grab raincheck. I love Starbucks so these were great. I can’t wait to try True North. I grabbed more Boost!! It was only $6.99 this week instead of $7.99.

With all this junk food, clearly I’m not on a diet. I use the Boost more as a breakfast replacement. In case you were wondering… :) It fills me up and the strawberry is really good. Haven’t had the vanilla yet but I’ll keep you posted…

Yummy

My haul:
1 x 12 pk Pepsi
1 x 12 pk Mtn Dew
4 x 4 pk Starbucks Frappuccino
8 x Sobe Life Water
4 x True North nuts
1 x Stacy’s Pita Chips
2 x Dove Men+
4 x Tostitos
3 x 6 pk Boost

Paid $5.03 OOP
Used $48.50 ECB (broken up into 4 transactions)
Received $47.98 ECB
Cost $5.55 (includes tax and crv)

I probably won’t take the cans or bottles into recycling, we have curbside, but if I did we would also get back $2.40 in crv

2010 Newspaper Insert Schedule

Click here for the 2010 Newspaper Insert Schedule
thanks to the folks at www.sundaycouponpreview.com

For anyone new to couponing, the Sunday paper is where a vast majority of coupons can be found, and while the inserts will have slight regional differences, for the most part the coupons are the same nationwide. If a coupon for cereal, for example, is labeled $1 off Post Cereal 1-17 SS, that means the coupon can be found in the Smart Source (SS) insert from the Jan 17th Sunday paper. If  you know the sales and coupons ahead of time, you’ll know when it’s a good week to grab extra newspapers.

Today I saw a coupon story at CNN, these stories aren’t new by any means, but there’s some interesting statistics from the article:

  • Americans cashed in 3.3 BILLION coupons in 2009.
  • 2009 was the first year in 17 years coupon usage went UP, probably due to people facing hard times and trying to save $$$
  • Redemption of online coupons tripled in 2009, but still newspaper coupons are king.
  • Newspaper coupons account for 89% of coupon usage.

“There has been a noticeable increase in page count over the past year. Manufacturers understand that in a tough economy, coupons are an effective and efficient way to spend their advertising dollar.”
